Orthodontic devices help in maintaining good dental health

With the diverse array of orthodontic devices available today, patients need to pay more thought to choosing the device that will be used to correct their teeth positioning issues, for the simple reason that some devices are more effective than others in maintaining good oral health. Good dental health remains the best way to avoid complicated dental procedures and treatments down the line. Dental practitioners rely on orthodontic instruments to help patients improve teeth alignment and spacing issues in addition to protruding teeth and bite problems.

Why clear aligners are more efficacious in keeping the mouth clean

Patients err in thinking all teeth-straightening devices are made equal seeing that their purpose is the same, but with devices such as Invisalign in Luton, there are certain advantages to wearing them that are lost with traditional braces. These advantages are the very reason why 8 million patients have placed their trust in this forward-thinking orthodontic method.

As traditional braces feature many different components such as wires, plastic bands and metal brackets, there exist numerous spaces and places on and between teeth that would make it difficult for toothbrush bristles to reach. These places are also ideal for trapping food and allowing bacteria to thrive. Long-term build-up of bad bacteria on teeth leads to tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss.

Another challenge posed by fixed orthodontic devices arises when it comes to flossing, as the design of the metal components make this task particularly challenging. Not being able to floss properly puts patients at risk of developing gum problems such as inflammation and bleeding. Patients will need to use specially designed threading tools to manipulate the floss to effectively remove trapped food in between the wires – a task that can eat up valuable time, not to mention energy.

With the clear aligner teeth-straightening system, patients can continue with their normal hygiene routine without having to make any inconvenient changes – as long as they practice dentist-recommended hygiene practices. By removing the challenges patients experience in keeping their mouths clean while wearing conventional braces, patients are also more likely to be more consistent and enthusiastic about their oral hygiene routines.

The trays are easily removable which allows for many of the advantages patients can enjoy in choosing them. Next to simpler and quicker cleaning routines and cleaner teeth, the aligner system offers other benefits too.

Better periodontal health begins with keeping gums food and bacteria free, and since aligners make flossing easier than standard braces, this is easier to accomplish.

Alleviates abnormal stress on teeth and jaws

When teeth are not in correct alignment, this can impact negatively on jaw joints, causing unbearable pain and discomfort as well as creating difficulties in eating and speaking.

The goal of the dental practitioners is to provide patients with straighter and healthier smiles. Contact a dental clinic for more information on the potential advantages of orthodontic treatment and how Invisalign treatments have been so efficacious in correcting patients’ teeth spacing and alignment issues.
